Taylor Harms will graduate May, 2016 from the University of Utah in elementary education. She is,
currently student teaching at Nibley Park Elementary in the Salt Lake District in a third grade classroom.
Being Taylor’s cohort leader, | have seen her teach on several occasions and have been impressed with
her natural ability to effectively teach, her kindness to young learners, and her enthusiasm for being a
professional educator. I've also had Taylor as a student in three classes and she is a dedicated student.
Taylor is always well prepared with lessons. She commits herself to understanding the content and
researches curriculum before teaching, Taylor is organized and each morning has her materials ready to
g0 for the day, Her use of technology, especially regarding Smart Boards and Plickers, enhances her
instruction nicely so that all students are engaged.
Taylor teaches fun, engaging lessons. I've seen her third graders engaged with meaningful content. It’s
obvious that her students know exactly what is expected.
This year, Taylor has been working with diverse students, She has learned that all learners need
something different in order to be successful. Taylor understands the importance of knowing your
students well enough to make accommodations. When working with students, Taylor remains calm and
patient. She invites students to participate with whole groups and small group instruction.
During fall semester, | was most impressed with Taylor's service learning project, which her and another
3 grade teacher candidate planned and implemented together. Their students worked collaboratively
to create a video about bullying. Through this experience, the students learned how to work together,
and what needs are present in their immediate school community.
Without any hesitation, | highly recommend Taylor Harms to any teaching position you have available.
She will be a terrific asset to your school and the students will love her fun and calm personality. If you
