    AreplytoaRTIapplicationhadrecentlyrevealedthattheHaryanagovernmenthasforwardedaproposaltotheMinistryofEnvironment,
    ForestsandtheClimateChangeforthedemarcationofEcoSensitiveZone(ESZ)onthesideofAsolaBhattiSanctuary.TheStategovernment
    hasproposeda100mESZalongtheboundaryofthesanctuaryinGurgaonanda1kmESZinFaridabad,saidtheRTIreply.
    Termingtheproposalasamereeyewash,environmentalanalystChetanAgarwaltoldTheHinduthatHaryanashoulddeclareasister
    sanctuaryornationalparkcontiguoustoAsolaBhattiSanctuaryasthiswouldprotectthecatchmentsofBadkhal,DamdaLake,MangarBani
    SacredGrove,andensureconnectivitybetweenAsolainDelhiandSariskainRajasthan.
    Tillthathappens,atleasttheentireAravallibeltinFaridabadandGurgaondistrictsofHaryana,varyingfromapproximatelyonekmto16
    kmindepth,mustbeincludedintheecosensitivezoneforAsolaBhattiSanctuary,hesaid.
    Lt.Col(retd.)S.S.Oberoi,anenvironmentactivist,saidDelhihadalreadyprotectedtheAravallihillsinSouthEastDelhibydeclaringa
    sanctuary,andwasnowputtingfurtherrestrictionsintheprivateagriculturalplainareasadjacenttotheAravallibeltintheformofeco
    sensitivezoneswhichwouldnotevencoverthecontiguousareas.TheproposedESZbeltontheHaryanasideleavesoutnumerousimportant
    ecologicalassetssuchaslakes,lakecatchments,sacredgroves,wildlifehabitats,andagroundwaterrechargezone,saidLt.Col.(retd.)
    Oberoi.
    TheAravallihillsextendallthewayfromAsolaBhattiSanctuaryinDelhi,toSariskaNationalParkinRajasthan,viaFaridabad,Gurgaonand
    Mewatdistricts.ThepresenceofleopardsinAsolaSanctuaryisaclearindicationthattheyaremovingtoAsolafromthesouthandeastsides.
    Also,StripedHyena,IndianGoldenJackal,RuddyMongoose,SmallIndianCivetandCommonPalmCivet,Mongoose,Neelgai,etc.,have
    presenceinAravallis.Severalcriticallyendangered,nearendangered,andrarebirdshavebeenreportedfromthesouthofAsolainMangar.
    TheMangarBaniwatershedandadjacentareasmakeupanimportantwildlifehabitatwithsightingsofrarebirds,andleopards.
