I. LESSON FOUNDATION
Lesson Title: Punctuation Station
Grade Level(s): 4th

Time Allotted: 60 mins

Subject Area(s)/Subject Content Explanation: Students will use the three


different text strategies in order to comprehend texts across genres.
Standard(s)/Anchors:
L.4.2b Use commas and quotation marks to mark direct speech and
quotations from a text.
Essential Question(s): Can the student create a sentence that requires the
use of quotations or commas on their own.
Instructional Objective(s): The students will create sentences making use of
quotations and commas with 100% accuracy.
Formative Assessment: If the student uses their notes to help guide them in
the use of the punctuation marks.
Summative Assessment: Students written work.
II. LESSON BODY
INTRODUCTION: Explanation of the center.
TEACHING PROCEDURES:
1. Teacher will explain the punctuation station to the students.
2. There will be two paper brown bags in which each has an item. On each
bag will be the type of punctuation the students are to use when creating
their sentences. The students should create 10 sentences using the
punctuation a different way each time.
3. If necessary the students can refer to their notes in their writing
notebooks. The students could even write their sentences in that notebook
and have it labeled correctly.
4. When finished students should return the items to the bag.

CLOSURE: This is a centers activity, the students will rotate to another area.
A debrief after all the centers have been attended. Review with students
what was done in each area and if more help is needed anywhere.
III. LESSON ESSENTIALS
DIFFERENTIATED LEARNING ACTIVITIES: For ELL students have instructions
written in their language for them to complete the assignment.
