Chapter III

Research Methodology

A. Research Design
This study is uses descriptive research design because it will determine the impact of the onthe-job training of the HRM students of Northwestern University and it will also describe the
different problems encountered by them.
B. Locale of the Study
This study will be conducted at Northwestern University with the target group of HRM
students who took their on-the job training last SY 2015-2016.
C. Research Gathering Instrument
For this research, a survey will be used to gather data from the sample. The survey will
be constructed by the researchers. There will be three parts of the questionnaire. The first part
will be the demographic profile of the respondents. The second part will be the impact of on-the
job training of HRM students. The questions for part II will be rated using likert scale as 4
Strongly Agree, 3-Agree, 2- Disagree, and 1-Stronly Disagree. Given a 4-point Likert Scale, the
norms of interpretation for this part of the survey shall be:
Weighted Mean
1.0- 1.75
1.76-2.5
2.51-3.25
3.26-4

Interpretation
No Impact
Slight Impact
Moderate Impact
High Impact

The last part will be the problems encountered by the HRM interns. This part of the
questionnaire shall require a multiple answer.

D. Data Gathering Procedure

There will be two ways on how the researchers will get responses from the HRM
students. First, the researchers will personally hand carried printed copies of the survey to the
respondents. Second, an online version of the survey will be made. The link will be posted online
and sent to social media connections.
E. Population and Sample
This study will utilize as its sampling technique quota sampling, where the researchers
will get 30 HRM students who too their internship last School Year 2015-2016.
F. Statistical Treatment
The weighted mean will be used to interpret the data gathered for each impact attribute in the
questionnaire. First, the weighted mean of the answers of the respondents per attribute will be
computed. Then, the mean of each attribute will be interpreted according to the norms of
interpretation presented above.
For the problems encountered, frequency and percentage will be utilized to present the most
common problems encountered by HRM students in their on-the-job training.
