Susan B. Anthony was born in Massachusetts (a free state).

Susan B. Anthony lived in a time when women could not make their own decisions,
women could not own property, and women were not allowed to vote.

We remember Susan B. Anthony today because she fought for womens rights. She
learned in her Quaker church that women should have the same rights as men.

Anthony, Stanton, and Douglass wanted to win justice for all people including men
(equal rights), women (suffrage), African Americans (end slavery), and all other
Americans.

Susan B. Anthony lost her job as a teacher because she complained about getting
paid less than male teachers.

She moved to Rochester, New York to work with other abolitionists.

Susan B. Anthony and her friend Elizabeth Cady Stanton were a good team
because Stanton wrote speeches for equal rights for women and Anthony spoke
them.

In 1860, the New York State Legislature passed a new law that married women
could own property.

Anthony broke the law because she voted illegally in the 1872 presidential
election.

In 1920, Susan B. Anthony did not live to see the law that was changed so that
women could vote in every state.
