Annotated Bibliography

Primary Sources
Emme, Eugene Morlock. Aeronautics and Astronautics; an American Chronology of Science and
Technology in the Exploration of Space, 1915-1960. Washington: n.p., 1961. Print.
This is a print source. One of the biggest challenges I faced while trying to complete this
project was locating information on space exploration before the 1950s, this book was the
answer to those problems as it has information dating back to 1915. This book addresses
how it was ultimately the airplane that laid the foundation for making travel into space
possible. Overall, the information within the book ended up being valuable to my
research.

This source is a magazine article. This article focuses on the Apollo 15 mission, which
introduced the first man driven vehicle onto the moons surface. The article offered good
insight on what occurred while the astronauts were on the moon and the challenges they
faced while deploying new technology.

This source is a magazine article. This article addresses the fierce competition between
the United Stated and Russia known as the Space Race. The article discusses where
both the U.S. and Russia currently are in their technological advancements that will

ultimately lead one of the countries to land man on the moon. It offers a look into just
how tense things were between the countries as both wanted to show they were the more
advanced in various areas than the other country.

This source is a magazine article. This article talks about the momentous mission that was
Apollo 11. It helped captures the anticipation and excitement Americans felt as they
watch Neil Armstrong take mans first steps upon the moon. The article also goes into
detail what actions the astronauts performed during their short time walking on the
moons surface.

This source is a website article. This source was used to discuss everything that went into
making Skylab the first American space station. The article runs through the many trials
and triumphs those working on the project encountered and the success that Skylab
ultimately came to be. This article helped lament just how quick thinking those who
worked on these projects had to be in stressful situations.

This source is a website article. I used the information from this article to talk about the
first man-in-space program in the U.S. This project is known as Project Mercury. The
article included helpful diagrams and drawings of the various missions.

This source is a website article. This source helped me find information regarding all of
the Apollo missions. It also helped me understand the individual objectives, or goals that
needed to be achieved, for every mission.

This source is a website article. I was able to find pertinent information regarding the life
of Neil Armstrong from this source. I was able to gain knowledge on all of his lifes
accomplishments.

This source is a website timeline. This timeline was very helpful in determining which
events occurred when. However, its one drawback was that it contained very small details
which made it hard to sort out which were the more important events verses the less
important.

This source is a website article. This article contains pertinent information regarding the
life of Neil Armstrong. It contained many useful facts, although, I wish the article itself
had been a bit longer and gone into more detail.

This is a website article. This article contains information on some of the very first items
to orbit earth. It contains important information and facts discussing that breakthroughs
and challenges in building the early satellites that I was able to include in my project.

This is a website article. This article was useful in obtaining information about the major
successes and failures of each country during the space race, all while being short and
