Dear Professor Castillo,

My topic for the semester will focus on how our oceans, by 2050 will be fishless. I have chosen
this topic because its important to know that pollution is on the big factors here. According to
Oceanographers they had found a sea turtle, something was blocking its nostril; they found it was
a straw. Plastic is the most commonly used material and it has been the most common thing in
the ocean. In the past years the amount of trash in out oceans has increased and with that the
decline of fish, meaning prices have gone up.
I intend to raise awareness about this issue by focusing my efforts in this class to advocate for the
knowledge about how we can teach younger generations to recycle not just in school, but at
home as well. This was one of the suggestions given by the reporters, how countries are
improving their recycling systems.
The discourse community that will and are being affected is the general public, especially places
that rely on the sea food as part of their diets.
While doing my research about ocean pollution, I might find some information within these
genres, journal articles, newspaper articles and YouTube webcasts.
I look forward to researching this topic further. Should you have any further questions, do not
hesitate to ask. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Betancourt
