Excerpted questioning of a child on the stand. James Greg Leigh

of Middlebrook pleaded guilty to six charges, five for abusing this
victim, and was given 80 years in prison. But 70 years were
suspended. The molestation spanned five years starting in 2008.
Assistant prosecutor: How do
you know him?
Girl: He is my grandmothers
husband.
Q: Do you know where you first
met Greg?
A: Yes.
Q: Where?
A: At their marriage.

Q: Would you tell the Judge,

please, what happened?
A: I was sitting on the couch, and
he came and sat next to me,
and he touched me
inappropriately.
Q: Okay. What did he touch you
with?
A: His hands.
Prosecutor: Was the Court able
to see? Let the record reflect
that Ive shown the witness a
drawing of a female child and
that the female child is
unclothed, and the witness
identified the vaginal area as
where the defendant touched
her.
Mr. Love: Since there is a record,
would the Commonwealth
have any objection to her circling
on the area, just so the
exhibit is clear?
(The girl circles the area.)
Q: And this happened once or
more often?
A: More often.
Q: How often?
A: At least once when I went
there every summer.
Q: Do you remember when you
started going there in the
summer?

A: When at least when I was

eight.
Q: How long did it continue?
A: Until I was 12 or 13.
Q: Was there a normal time of
day that it would happen?
A: Usually, in the morning when
my grandmother was taking a
shower, and sometimes at night.
Q: Was there anyone was
there ever anyone else in the
room?
A: No.
Q: In these incidents would he
take your clothes off, or was he
just putting his hand under your
clothes?
A: Putting his hands under my
clothes.
Q: In any of these incidents did
he ever use any force? Did he
ever hold you down?
A: One time he forced me on my
knees and he put his private part
on my back.
Q: Were you sitting on the couch,
or were you laying down when
that happened?
A: I was sitting on the couch.
Q: And on that occasion did he
use force?
A: Yes.
Q: Did he push you down?
A: Yes.
Q: Would he say anything when
he was doing this?
A: One time he said that I should
not wear jeans. He said that I
should not wear jeans because it
was, like, too hard for him to not
touch me inappropriately.
