PREINSTRUCTIONAL SET
Attention-Getting
(Show slide with picture of playground) I work at Sunday
Strategy
School with a young girl named Alena who has autism. I
have worked with her for about six months, and over these
six months I have learned a lot about her. She loves to
listen to music, color and she loves the playground more
than anything (especially the rock climbing wall). I have
used this knowledge of Alena loving the playground to help
create goals for her while at Sunday school. Alena is
allowed to go outside on the playground if she stays seated
and quiet during big group. Before I knew Alena loved the
playground, she would not sit in big group for even five
minutes! Through getting to know her, I found out what
brings her joy and how to create goals for Alena based upon
this information. This is an example in my own life of how to
use person centered thinking.
