A majority of society surfs on the web daily. It is important that website

designers understand how to make their website appealing to the right type
of audience. For this assignment I have chosen to analyze non-profit
organizations websites.

organizations are so
important. I have chosen
three nonprofit
organizations that I have
been involved in previously

I feel that it is important to review these

websites to see if there is anything that
these organizations can improve on because
in reality they are competing for peoples
donations to their cause. These
organizations have to have simple, yet
informative substance for the audience to

for this assignment. These sites belong to St. Jude Research Hospital,
Ronald McDonald House Charities Upper Midwest, and Circle of
Sisterhood. I will review these websites appeal, accuracy, and coverage. I
believe St. Judes website to be superior to the other websites based on this
criterion with the Ronald McDonald House Charities Upper Midwest
coming in second and Circle of Sisterhood coming in third after my analysis
of each website.

The first website to be discussed is St. Jude Research Hospitals

website. When opening to the sites home page it is simple white and black

wording of the main menu. The website stays consistent with the main focus
being on the content with the simple white background, splashes of red and

from around the world and

One of the most appealing attributes to

the site is the patient stories and the

history of St. Jude. According to the website Danny Thomas prayed to St.
Jude saying "Show me my way in life and I will build you a shrine (St.

Jude Childrens Research Hospital). It is heart warming and keeps the

audience engaged and eager to learn more and possibly donate.

They rely on many types of people to keep

them functioning thus they have a lot of
information that needs to be covered on
their website. St. Jude does an amazing job

of having all possible questions answered in some way on their website. This
website is the best because of all these strengths and the ease of navigating
to where the audience member may need to go. The best tool on the site for
an audience member that is in a hurry is the search bar that St. Jude offers.
The St. Jude website designer followed all the rules of having a successful
website.
The second website that is reviewed is the Ronald of the Upper
Midwest. The Ronald McDonald House Charities is an international
organization with many different chapters. I chose to focus on the Upper

Joyner 6

Midwest chapter to see how an individual chapter holds up next to a large

organization like St. Jude. The website
opens to the traditional colors of the Ronald
McDonald House Charities: white, red,
yellow and black

The appeal of the home page is soft and

hart warming. The first large words that
the audience reads are Families are at
the heart of what we do (Ronald
McDonald House Charities).

This allows the audience to have an idea of what the Ronald McDonald
House does in a simple sentence. There are sweet black and white photos of

Joyner 7

families being affectionate to their sick children. The home page is simple in
the fact that it has the directions to their four locations in the area and a main
menu. The accuracy of the website is great. There are no typos or
misspellings. The best attribute of the site is that a bulk of the information is
provided in bullet points and in simple sentences so that the audience is able
to understand what they are reading. They also focus on

telling the uplifting stories of families

to give the audience hope. The Ronald
McDonald House converts a lot of
information ranging from

Joyner 8

whom they are, how to

volunteer, and donate. The aspect I like least is the inability to click on a
topic on the main menu and be redirected to a new page. The reader has to
click on the first option just to go to an overview of that topic. This site is
informative and helpful, but it could be better.
The final website that will be reviewed is the Circle of Sisterhood
website. I have chosen to review this website because this is a fairly

Joyner 9

new
nonprofit

organization
that was created in 2010. It is a very simple website that is very cute and fun.
The best part of the website is its appeal to the audience. It is colorful and
has a fun font on the home page. As the audience scrolls down the home
page they find a simple explanation of what Circle of Sisterhood has done.
According to the website

and backgrounds the font is large

enough for anyone to read the information given. The website is accurate in
what it has to tell the audience. There is not a lot of explanation on exactly
how others can help. However, there is enough information to get a general

impact in 17 countries on 4
continents since our founding in

idea of what the organization is

trying to do.
Designing a website for non-

2010 (Circle of Sisterhood). Even

profit organizations has proven

though there is a colored font

itself to be a challenge in many

ways. It is important that the organizations stand

Joyner 11

out next to others and is able get

the amount of donations they need
to continue doing the good that
they do. Each website had their

strengths and weaknesses and

were superior in some aspects than others. After the analysis of all three
websites it is clear that St. Jude has a stronger website than the other two
websites when reviewing appeal, accuracy, and coverage.
