Math Reflection
After reading from the mathematics framework, I believe that one should be familiar with
every area of the framework. Teachers should know the math covered in this area enough to feel
confident in explaining it to the students. The knowledge needed to teach mathematics in an
elementary school classroom are fractions, measuring lengths, order of operations, use place
values, and of course addition, subtraction, and multiplication. My classes both in mathematics
and field/ classroom classes have helped to prepare me to think fast and adapt to different
situations in the classroom. This includes me changing my lessons to best fit my students needs.
I must also do all thats possible to gain my students interests. I believe that I am well prepared in
fractions, adding, subtracting, and order of operations. I am excited to prepare my lesson in fun
and exciting ways to engage my students and help them build positive learning experiences,
especially in this subject. I feel less prepared in classifying properties of different shapes.
Although I may feel less prepared in this specific area, I know that through different resources I
can gain more practice and become well prepared. I plan on sharing my math lesson plan as an
artifact in this area of my portfolio. I also plan on sharing the math worksheet that I used during
my math lesson. The work samples that I will share demonstrate the different teaching
techniques I have learned to best meet the needs of my students. My work samples connect to my
personal experiences in teaching and learning of mathematics because it gives others an idea of
how I like to teach and my ideas of the best ways to target a students interests.
