Genre Project for Extended Inquiry Project (EIP)

You will be creating a new medium or genre for your EIP findings. Already you have written
about your findings in a research essay. Now you need to make a few decisions concerning how
to present this information in another format.
I. When making rhetorical decisions, you are simply deciding upon the best way of presenting
what you have learned. Four items must be considered to make this decision:
1. Purpose- What do you intend for the writing to accomplish?
2. Audience- To whom are you directing your focus?
3. Subject- You chose this at the beginning of the EIP.
4. Genre- How will you present this information in the most effective way given your
purpose, audience and subject?
II.

Be creative. Choose a format that you feel will best reach your target audience and
achieve your purpose for your given subject.
1. You can use video, audio, print, photography, and art, just to name a few modes. The
options are endless. Whichever you choose, one or more of these, you will be presenting
the final project on your ePortfolio. Refer to the Brief List of Genres that is posted on
Moodle for ideas.
2. On our exam day, you will share your genre project with the class.

III.

After you have created your genre project, you will need to answer the following
questions:
1. Who is your intended audience? Describe your audience in detail. Why did you choose
this particularaudience for this project?
2. What is your purpose for sharing this topic: to inform, to persuade, to express yourself,
or to entertain? Why did you decide upon this purpose?
3. What is your genre idea, and why did you decide upon this specific method for sharing
your topic? Why do you feel this was the most effective way to share your EIP findings?
4. The answers to these questions must be included with your genre project, perhaps as a
written introduction.
