Day 2 Task
Managing Transitions in the Classroom
Miss Renees (MST) reply to when I asked her about their transitions was truly helpful she said
About transitions: They are best done with song and movement. This young age needs reminders
like, Class, in 5 minutes we will start to tidy up then I play a clean up song. This song is their cue to
tidy and it works very well. We also line up with a song and maybe a finger play like Ennsy weensy
spider so that their hands our busy and they arent touching other children. It is best for them because
they have to do something that takes focus. Songs really help them understand that one activity/lesson
is ending and another is beginning.
Type of Transition

Strategy

Effectiveness

Musical From one class to

another.

Plays the clean up song, this

tells the students that there are
only 5 minutes left till class is
over and that they should clean
up and line up by the door.

Highly effective, will use in the

future

Audible From the

playground to class.

Miss Renee reminds her

students five minutes ahead
when their break is ending so
that they can clean up and head
to cleass.

Not as good as the musical

transition, but also effective.

By the bell From one class to

another.

The Arabic teacher tends to let

the students do their activities
by the last part of the lesson so
that when the bell rings they
would be done with their
activities and head to the other
class.

Effective, but slightly messy.

She could go over them as part of the
morning routine
She could ask them to make an activity
about how they see the rules, like how
they feel whenever they hear the rule to
help them rememebr it.
When some students lose their focus
she attracts their attention by starting to
say things they like for example Hmm
I wonder who should pick a song today,
should it be Yousef? and then she
picks a random spoon that has a name.

She doesnt accept answers from those
who shout it out, she says I cant hear
you because you didnt raise your hand.

She tells them by raising the sign.
She can sign a song about being quiet
and how important it is to do that so
that we can hear our friends answering
the question.

tells them to first slowly walk to the
door and not shove one another.
