Opening

Introduce compound words to the children.


Discuss/Ask the children about how/what makes these compound words.
Give some examples of compound words. If possible, ask the children about the meaning of these
words.
Let the children think of other words.
Small group activity
Compound words: Mix up words
Children will combine two cards together to form a compound word.
Children will write the two words as one word on a sheet.
Paired activity
Compound words: Make your own
Children will think and write a word before or after the written word.
Independent activity
Making compound word
Children will use one word from the word bank.
Children will combine the chosen word with the word that is written beneath the word bank.

Have children complete the three activities (On their own or in pairs).

Reflection:
The thing that went well, is when I started to explain the lesson, the children were able to identify and
recognize the compound words, and that made my teaching a little bit easier since they have prior
knowledge of the compound words. Also, the activities and the PowerPoint were well made, since the
children enjoyed doing the activity and they were very excited as they were enjoying the game on the
PowerPoint.
It would be better if I used some flashcards. Next time Ill give children flashcards, each card contain one
word. The use of it will be that they can form any compound words that comes in their mind but it
shouldnt be random.
What did the children learn? How do I know this?
The children learned how to form the compound words. Also, they learned that there are some words that
can be used many times in different ways. I knew it when they used the word light for several compound
words like: lighthouse, flashlight, etc.
