UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:


Students will understand the role of rules and laws in our daily lives and the basic structure of the United
States government, with opportunities to compare different government systems as described in the
Tennessee state social studies standard 3.30.
LESSON OBJECTIVE:
Given questions about the two Constitutions, the student will be able to answer with 90% accuracy.
STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
TN Social Studies 3.30- Describe the Constitution of the United States and the Tennessee State Constitution in
principle and practice.
ISTE standard:
Research and Information Fluency:
Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information.
b. Locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of
sources and media.

Technology Integrated:
Students will use Google to do research about Tennessee State Constitution, and if need to do more
research about the United States Constitution Google will be used. Microsoft Word will be used to put imaged
on the table, type, and format for this assignment. After completing the assignment, the students will then
submit it into the class dropbox.

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:

Students will demonstrate a clear understanding of the Constitution of the United States and
Tennessee State Constitution.
This lesson is a start of Tennessee social studies standard 3.30.
We will go into more detail about the Constitution and go more into detail about the Tennessee
State Constitution.
We will write a one to two page summary about the United States Constitution and Tennessee
State Constitution. You will use the information you research off the internet and the information
from class.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:


Introduction:
Begin by doing an overview of what the Constitution of the United States is, with an overview of
what the Tennessee State Constitution is without going into a lot of detail.
Point out this assignment will take three days to complete, so if you feel like you are getting
frustrated three days will be enough time to complete the activity.
Instead of using their books to complete the activity, the students will use the internet.
If you get stuck on finding research or not understanding what you are researching, you may as
one of your classmates for help, or you may ask me for help.
Procedures:
Prior to Computer (15 Minutes)
Teacher Procedures:
1. After the introduction, pass out the worksheet with questions for them to answer to see what
information they have retained from the lecture I taught them.
2. After the worksheet I will ask them if they have any questions before starting to work on the
computers.
Student Procedures:
1. The students will answer the questions on the worksheet that was passed out.
2. Look over the instruction sheet to see if they have any questions about what they are
supposed to do.
At computer (45 minutes)
Teacher Procedures:
1. Have students open Word.
2. Have students to open PowerPoint.
3. Direct students to the Constitution of the United States website.
4. Direct students to the Tennessee State Constitution website.
5. Assist as needed.

Student Procedures:
1. Open MS Word.
2. Type Constitution of the United States
3. Bold and center it
4. Go to Google.
5. Go to the link for the Constitution of the United States website.
6. Go back to MS Word.
7. Type out Article followed by Roman numeral.
8. Highlight the word Article and Roman numeral then bold it.
9. Go back to the website.
10. Read the information under the Article.
11. Go back to MS Word.
12. Write four or five sentence or do bullet points (four or five) about the information under each
Article.
13. Go back to the website once finish with typing the information.
14. After completing steps 5-11, do it six more times.
15. Go to a new page.
16. Type Tennessee State Constitution.
17. Bold then center it.
18. Go to Google
19. Go to the Tennessee State Constitution website.
20. Go back to MS Word.
21. Type out the name of the Article Roman numeral and its name.
22. Go back to the website
23. Read the information under the name.
24. Go back to MS Word.
25. Write four or five sentence or bullet points about the information under the article.
26. Once finish typing the information, go back to the website.
27. After finishing steps 21-25, do it ten more times.
28. Go to a blank page.
29. Write a one page summary of the information you found.
30. Save your work to a flash drive.
31. Submit it in the class dropbox.
32. Print
After the Computer (20 minutes)
Teacher Procedures:
1. Tell the students they should have turned their assignments in
2. Have the students trade papers.
3. Ask them to highlight or circle information they put on their assignment.
4. Call on students to share.
Student Procedures:
1. Highlight information you see that you put in your assignment.
2. Read over the material.
3. Prepare to be called on to share what you both had in common.

Closure: Ask about five student to share information they have found they thought about the two Constitutions.
Ask the class a few questions. At the end of the class go check the dropbox to make sure each student submitted
their assignment.

Article I
All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States
