Caleb Cannon took PHYS 1010 taught by Professor Janalee Harrison. He wrote that the class was interesting and he learned a lot. For a class paper, students had to analyze a natural disaster using 5 physics principles or laws learned in class. Caleb wrote that applying what he learned to a real event helped him better understand how physics applies to natural phenomena on Earth. Doing the assignment taught him to view things in daily life from a physics perspective, like understanding water pressure and flow in pipes.

Reflection This class was a good class. I learned a lot of very interesting things. For the paper due at the end of this class we were required to find and article about a natural disaster and take 5 different ideas, laws, or principles we learned in this class and analyze the events of a natural disaster from a perspective using these 5 different applications. The paper supported what I learned in class because we were looking at a real even that occurred on this earth where all the laws and ideas we learned in class apply. It was very helpful to look at a natural disaster from a physics perspective because it helps you realize and understand a lot more what goes on here on earth. Like with an earth quake learning about frequencies helped me understand why the effects of an earthquake are so drastic. From doing this assignment it taught me to look at the things that going on around me with a physics perspective. It kind of sheds a new light on things. When you think of how different things work like running water in the house for example. The reason the water comes out of the tap instead of just staying there in the pipes is because of the pressure from the water behind it and all the way back to the mountains. Thats one of the many ways Ive learned to look at different life occurrences from a physics perspective.
