Movement Canon Lesson

Objective: Students will learn what a round or canon is through movement.


Grade: Fourth/fifth grade
National Core Standards:
#1 Generate and conceptualize music ideas and work
#2 Organize and develop musical ideas and work
#3 Refine and complete musical work
Process:
1. Have students copy your movements and what you say. Tap your head,
shoulders, knees, and toes four times and say aloud what body part
you are touching.
2. Next have students copy you as soon as you move to the next body
part. This will leave no gap in between.
3. Explain what a round/canon is and how the students just demonstrated
one.
4. Next split the students up into small groups and have them come up
with their own little cannons within their groups.
