goingtobefocusingonhowthefrenchandAmericanRevolutionstartedandhowitended,how
itaffectedthepushforIndependenceforothercolonizedareas,howteaandcoffeeinfluenced
therevolutions,andtherolesofGeorgeWashingtonintheAmericanandMarquisDeLafayette
intheFrenchRevolution.
TheAmericanRevolutionstartedinApril9,1775andendedonSeptember3,1783.
ThewarwasalsoknownastheAmericanWarofIndependence.Theyfoughtfortheirfreedom
betweenGreatBritainandtheBritishcolonistinAmerica.Themajoreventsthathappenedinthe
AmericanRevolutionistheBostonTeaParty,theStampAct,theBostonMassacre,thePassage
oftheIntolerableActs,TownshendTariffs,andofcoursetheadoptionoftheDeclarationof
Independence.Oneofthemainreasonswhytherevolutionstartedwasbecausebackin1754the
FrenchandIndianWartookplaceandafterthatKingGeorgeIIIalargeamountofmoney
becauseheusedthemoneytobuysuppliesandweaponsforhisarmies.Sosincehewastedmost
ofthemoneybuyingthesupplieshedecidedtoplacetaxesonthecoloniessohecouldpayoff
hisdebt.Also,GeorgeWashingtonplayedanimportantroleduringtherevolution.
TheBostonTeaPartytookplaceonDecember16,1773.TheBostonTeaPartywasa
politicalprotestontheSonsofLiberty.
TheBostonTeaPartyhappenedon3shipsandthe
BostonTeaPartytookplacebecausethecolonistsdidnotwanttohavetopaytaxesonthe
BritishTea.1

In1775to1783GeorgeWashington
wasthecommanderinchiefoftheContinentalArmyduringtheAmericanRevolutionheserved
twotermsasthefirstU.S.presidentfrom1789to1797.2
Duringthetimeoftherevolution,
GeorgeWashingtonwasanationalherobecauseheledthecolonialforcestovictory.
Washingtonwasalsoelectedforpresidentin1787andin1789hewasAmericasfirstpresident.
DuringthattimeWashingtonalsowrotetheU.S.Constitution.
In1773,342chestsofteawasthrownoverboardbySamuelAdamsandtheSonsof
Liberty.3
TheteaimpactedtheAmericanRevolutionbecausethecitizensdidntwanttaxeson
thetea,andtheygotontheshipfilledwiththeteaanddecidedtodumpitoutsidetheBoston
Harbor.ThiswascalledtheBostonTeaParty.TheteacamefromChinaandtheBostonHarbor
wasshutdownuntilthesmelloftheteawasgoneanduntiltheyfinishedpayingforallthetea

TheFrenchRevolutionstartedin1789to1799.TheFrenchRevolutionwasalsolikethe
AmericanRevolutionbecausebothofthemfoughtforrights.Aboutmorethanhalfofthepeople
inEuropewerestrugglinginlifeandonlyafewofthemlivedaperfectlife.Therewerealsothe
threeestates.ThemajoreventsthathappenedintheFrenchRevolutionwastheEnlightenment
Movement,DeclarationoftheRightsofMan
sandoftheCitizens,andtheRiseofNapoleon.
BeforetheFrenchRevolution,thefrenchsocietywasdividedintoestates.5Therewere
threeestatesintheFrenchRevolution.ThefirstestateconsistedclergyoftheCatholicChurch
likepriestownedmostofthelandandwasthelargestlandowner.Theyusuallydonthaveto
workalotorpaytaxes.
TheCatholicChurchonlyrepresented1%ofthepopulationand15%of
theland.6

thepeoplewhowerentinthefirstorsecondestatemeaningthepoors,farmers,andetc.They
technicallytheydoalltheworklikepaythetaxeswhentheothertwoestatesdont.Thethird
estateowned97%ofthepopulationand65%oftheland.
CoffeealsoinfluencedintheFrenchRevolutionbecausecoffeewasahugeimpact.It
wasabigimpactbecausecoffeewasusedtostayawakeandactive.Coffeealsohelpedthe
soldiersstayawakeduringfightsandwars.Citizenswouldgettogetherandcometothe
coffeehouseanddiscussissues.Duringtheenlightenmentperiod,coffeewasthedrinkofchoice
fortheintellectualminds.
MarquisDeLafayetteplayedanimportantroleintheFrenchRevolution.Hejoinedthe
RoyalArmyasalieutenantintheKimpMusketeers.Hesignedanagreementin1776withSilas
DeantoserveasaMajorGeneralintheContinentalArmy.
Lafayettewasamilitaryofficerwho
foughtfortheUnitedStatesintheAmericanRevolution.
Overall,theprojectwasbasedontheFrenchandAmericanRevolution.Themaincauses
fortheFrenchRevolutionwastheworseningfinancialconditionofthegovernment,economic
depression,andEnlightenmentMovement.
ThemaineventsthathappenedintheAmerican
RevolutionistheBostonTeaParty,theStampAct,theBostonMassacre,thePassageofthe
IntolerableActs,TownshendTariffs,andofcoursetheadoptionoftheDeclarationof
Independence.LafayettefoughtfortheUnitedStatesandWashingtonledthecolonialforcesto
victory.
