More Than Half of U.S. States Not Well Prepared for Disease Outbreaks
Robert Preidt

This project involves learning about infectious diseases in human history. My goal is to accurately
estimate how likely another pandemic or epidemic would happen in the future, how soon it would come,
and what the disease would be like. I also want to inform people of ways to prevent this from happening.
The fourth way Ive learned about infectious diseases is by researching about our preparedness for a
major disease outbreak. As you can see in the title, more than half of U.S. states are not very well
prepared for these outbreaks. 28 states are prepared in preventing, detecting, diagnosing and responding
to large scale epidemics. Delaware, Kentucky, Maine, New York and Virginia were all tied for the top
score, based on a new report. In learning about this, I will be able to communicate how ready the world
really is for another disease outbreak.
