Atomic Theory TimeLine

Ani Goni

Democritus
He thought you would eventually end up with a particle that could not be cut after
you already cut it. He named this particle of an atom. He was a Greek philosopher
so the word atom, is from Greek and it means not able to be divided.

Dalton
Dalton is a British chemist and teacher. His theory stated the following ideas: all
substances are made of atoms. Atoms are small particles that cannot be created,
divided, or destroyed. Atoms of the same element are exactly alike, and atoms of
different elements are different. Atoms join with other atoms to make new
substances.

Thomson
He discovered that there are small partials inside the atom, so the atom could be
divided into smaller parts. He invented the Cathode-Ray Tube. With this invention
he discovered that a positively charged plate attracted the beam and made it bend
down. He concluded that the beam must be made of partials that have a
negatively charge, which is now called electrons.

Rutherford
He tested Thomsons experiment. He got a thin sheet of gold foil, he put a special
coating behind the foil. After hitting the gold his experiment showed if atoms have
different parts or if they are all the same throughout. During his experiment some
of the particles passed right through the gold, some deflected and some bounced
back.

Bohr
Bohr is a Danish scientist he studied the way atoms reacted to light. He
discovered that electrons move around the nucleus in definite path. Also electrons
can jump from path in one level to a path in another level.

Schrodinger and Heisenberg

They found out that electrons do not travel in definite path as Bohr said, the truth
is the exact path of an electron cannot be predicted. There is are regions inside
the atom where electrons are likely to be found, this place is called electron clouds
