Colors

Purpose:
To understand how the additive and subtractive primary colors combine to produce different
colors.
Materials:
Color console, color filters [red, green, blue], magnify glass, chromotography paper, color
makers, 500 ml beaker.
Procedure:
1. a. The red and blue color lights results in the color purple. b. The red and green color lights
result in the color black. c. The blue and green color lights result in the color cyan. d. The blue,
red and green color lights result in the color black.
2. Using a textbook we used a magnifying glass to look at colored images from printed materials
and seen tiny dots. The Purple was made out of red and blue dots.
3. The colors we used were blue, red, and purple.

4. Look at a sheet of white paper through a red filter. what color is coming through? The color
coming through is red. . b. Look at a sheet of white paper through a blue filter. what color is
coming through? The color coming through is blue. . Look at a sheet of white paper through a
green filter. what color is coming through? The color coming through is green. c. Now look at
the white paper through a combination of two filters of your choice. With the colors red and blue
me and Maricruz saw the color purple. When we put red and blue together on the white paper we
seen the color purple. d. Look at the white paper through the combinations of all three filters.
What color do you see? With the combination of red, blue, and green filters on the white paper
we seen the color black.
5. Look at a green leaf using a green filter. What is of the leaf as seen through the green filter?
Using the green filter on a green leaf, we still see the color green. a. Using the blue filter on the
green leaf we seen the color black. b. Using the red filter on the green leaf we seen the color
black.
Questions:
1. In a dimly lit place such as a movie theatre, it is difficult to tell the color of your own clothes.
explain. Color is sensed by the cones within the retinas of our eyes. humans have rods that are
sensitive even in dim light, but these rods do not distinguish color.
2. If red, blue, and green pigments were mixed, what would be the resulting color? The resulting
color is black.

3. What would be the resulting color if cyan and red lights were combined? The color would be
black.
