Walead Beshtys use of color and pattern of geometric is the work of a pure genius. The
technique he uses to get these colors on the folded pieces of light sensitive photo paper reminds
me of the refraction of a group of crystals. As a math geek as well as an artist, the repetition and
cohesiveness of the images pleases me while the colors used give me an added bonus to the
works. I find that color is more appealing to me and my personality, so to see a wide range of
color and black and white images is refreshing.
Beshty has influenced my work by the way he uses color integration throughout his
pieces. The use of line in his compositions makes the work interesting and enhances the use of
color within the images. He uses line as the subject rather than an addition to the work; I use this
method when creating a lot of my 2D work and will need to explore this in photography. I want
to try his technique of getting the randomized lines on the photo paper.
