Mrs. Jane Smith Chief Nursing Officer Tucson Medical Center I am writing to express my interest in a position as an ICU nurse at Tucson Medical Center. Upon graduating at the College of Nursing at the University of Arizona, I have acquired the abilities to be a leader and team member while preforming evidence based practice. Implementing up-to-date guidelines that support safety and quality of care is one of my core vales that I take very seriously. I have successfully completed my preceptorship in the neurology unit specializing in neurosurgery. This unit has furthered my development and equipped me with the tools necessary to deliver outstanding care. Because this is the primary medical/surgical unit for University Medical Centers Stroke Center, which also houses the Arizona Comprehensive Epilepsy Program, I was exposed to a plethora of patients. This unit is a 28-bed adult medical-surgical unit where time management and organization was the key to success. In addition, I developed competence and self sustainment to overcome challenges I had not yet experienced. During my preceptorship on the medical-surgical 6E unit at BUMC, I cared for up to five patients. I would apply the nursing process with every event and utilize every opportunity to provide holistic care for my patients. Thoroughly understanding and abiding by my scope of practice, I would seek out resourceful ways to provide exceptional care. As meticulous as I am about organization and applying my critical thinking skills, I have devoted my time as a nurse that will always accept room for growth and feedback. My passion for critical care has stemmed from my experiences as a volunteer in emergency room prior to nursing school. From the moment I realized I could make an impact on someones life and that of their families, I devoted my life to this profession. As a volunteer, I was already grasping the idea that this profession revolves around flexibility and process-changes. I understand this hospital employs the use of evidence based care, which is precisely why I wish to offer my candidacy. Working as a first responder holds a place in my heart that is most dear to me. Emphasizing the importance of an effective and efficient initial assessment, I know my abilities to establish a baseline status and anticipate changes of condition will become an asset to this hospital. Working at this level two trauma center as a team player would be an honor. Thank you for your consideration.
