And Then There Were None

Introduction:
" And Then There Were None" was our summer reading assignment. We wrote
this essay on who we believed comitted the worst crime and who was the guiltiest.

Essay:
The character of "And Then There Were None" , by Agatha Christie, all have done
dirty deeds. Ten will be sent to soldier islan to be punished for their crimes." One little
soldier boy left all alone; he went and hanged himself. And then there were none."
(Christie,47)
Vera is one of the ten victims being sent off to the island. She is selfish,jealous,
and secretive. When Vera and the others arrive on the island Mr. Rogers, the butler, play a
record and it stated all of their crimes." Vera Elizabeth Claythorne , that on the 11th day
of August , 1935, you killed Cyril Ogilive Hamilton ." ( christie, 38) Before going to the
island , Vera had worked for a family. Vera fell in love with Hugo, the ma she worked
for, and coudl not marry him because if certain cicumstances. Cyril , Hugo's newphew ,
was the reason she could not marry. One day they were swimming ans she let Cyril swim
when she knew he would drown. " Found drowned...drowned...at sa drowned-drowned.
No she would remember... she wouldn't think of it all that was over."(chritsie ,29). She
never spoke of Cyrils drownig to anyone but herself. Christie wanted to show how
jealous and cruel Vera can be.This quote shows her personality and one of the many times
she thinks of Hugo.
There is a poem , and then there were none by Frank Green , hanging above the
fireplace . None of them figure out the the poems seceret , until Vera tells them. On page
28 it sya " Vera s,iled. Of course! This was soldier island!" She herself was intellegent
enough to firgure it out .
Vera learned a vauleable life lesson, but she may have learned it to late. Her life
lesson is jealousy gets the best of you.

Reflection:
And Then There Were None was our summer reading for this school year. Our
assignment was to write who we believe commited the worst crime. I have written essays
like this, so it wasn't a dfficult task for me to. I had a difficult time choosing between
Vera Claythorne and Justice Wargrave. Justice commited several crimes plus he murdered

all the guests on the island. Vera let a kid die becuase of love. I chose Vera because
Ithought letting a kid drown for love was cruel.
I think I should have gotten an B on this essay. The quotes I used were ok my
quotes could have and should have been better. I would change how I set up the
paragraphs, word choice and quotes.
