Vocabulary
Peak: (pic) the pointed top of a mountain, or the mountain itself
Wide: (ample) having a larger distance from one side to the
other than is usual or expected, especially in comparison with
the length of something; not narrow.
Rainforests: (selves tropicals) forest in a tropical area which
receives a lot of rain.
Freely: (amb llibertat) in a way which is not fixed or joined to
anything, so able to move easily.
Coast: (costa) the land next to or close to the sea
Main points
The continent of Africa is enormous. It has got an area of more than
30 million km².
A large part of the continent consists of a high plateau and
mountains ranges. The highest mountain is Mount Kilimanjaro in
Tanzania.
The continent has got some of the world’s longest rivers like Nile.
The largest lake is Lake Victoria, the second biggest lake in the
world.
The biggest island in Africa is Madagascar.
The continent has got a wide variety of vegetation. Central Africa
has got tropical rainforests. In North Africa there is the desert of
Sahara. The large part of the southern part of Africa is savannah, a
dry plain with few trees and bushes;
In the savannah there are a elephants, lions and other wild animals
wander freely.
