PNU Heads AsTENs 2nd Meeting of University Presidents

MANILA Top level officials of premier education institutions who are members of the
Association of Southeast Asian Teacher Education Network (AsTEN) met on Friday, April 24,
2015, at the Bayleaf Hotel in Intramuros, Manila for the 2nd Meeting of University Presidents.
PNU President Dr. Ester B. Ogena presided over the meeting to define the vision and strategic
directions of AsTEN for the next three years aimed at raising the bar of excellence for teacher
development in the ASEAN Region. The network was established in September 2014 to promote
collaboration among the leading teacher education universities in the region. Its members are
National Institute of Education (Kingdom of Cambodia), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia
(Republik Indonesia), National University of Laos (Lao Peoples Democratic Republic),
Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (Malaysia), Yangon University of Education (Union of
Myanmar), Philippine Normal University (Republic of the Philippines), National Institute of
Education (Republic of Singapore), Kasetsart University (Kingdom of Thailand), and Vietnam
National University (Socialist Republic of Vietnam).
As its initial activity,
AsTEN will hold an
international
conference
in
Bandung, Indonesia in
July, 2015 and engage
in six international
comparative studies in
the
area
of
transformative
education,
student
mobility,
regional
teacher
education
standards,
teaching
philosophies and ,
pedagogies in ASEAN.
Dr. Wilma S. Reyes,
PNU VP for Research, Planning, and Quality Assurance is concurrently the Executive Director
of AsTEN. Philippine Normal University will continue to hold AsTEN chairmanship until the
next elections in 2017.
