His work focused on his work on the conductivities of electrolytes.

He
wrote 150 pages on electrolytic conductivity, he sent it to Uppsala for the
doctorate. It did not impress the professors, he received a fourth-class degree,
then later a third-class degree, and then after a lot of hard work he received the
nobel prize. He was given the honorary title of docent at Uppsala University in
1884 and awarded a travel stipend.
