Dear parents,
I am so excited to announce that we will be going on a field trip on
April 29 to the American Village. We will go to celebrate the ending of
our unit on the causes of the American Revolution! We will walk
through American Village as well as attend the Liberty program, an
engaging program for elementary students! Students who have
completed the summative assessment and are in good standing with
their due assignments are welcome on the field trip. We will leave
Trace Crossings at 8:15 and will arrive back at school at 2:00. The cost
of this field trip is $20 per student, which will cover the bus fee as well
as the American Village program fee. If you are willing to donate to
help cover the fee of another student, please check the box and
include the amount you are willing to give. If you are unable to pay this
fee, please write the amount that you are able to pay for the trip. The
students will not need to bring spending money on the field trip. I will
need a lunch tally for the cafeteria, so please write below if your
student will bring a lunch or needs one from the cafeteria. Students
can bring a snack, but they will leave it in the classroom for after the
field trip. Parents are welcome to come, but they will need to pay $10
for American Village. Absolutely no electronics are allowed on this trip.
I do not allow them, and they are not allowed at American Village. I will
check students before they enter the bus, so please check your
student before they come to school to make sure their electronics are
at home. Students should wear tennis shoes, a red shirt, blue jeans,
and bring a rain jacket for inclement weather. Please complete the
form below, cut it out, and have your student turn it in as well as the
$20 by April 22. If your student does not submit this in time, they will
stay back with another fifth grade classroom. Thank you all in advance
for responding early!
Sincerely,
Miss Knox

Management Plan
Clothing
The students will all wear red shirts. They should wear a pair of jeans as well. The
chaperones and teacher will abide by this dress code as well.
Grouping
The students will stay whole group for the majority of the day; however, students must all
have a partner throughout the entire field trip. The teacher will ask every student before
they get on the bus to tell her their partner. They must remain with the partner all day. On
the bus, the students may pick their bus partner. This will be the partner they stay with all
day. As many parents who wish to come are welcome, but there must be at least three
other chaperones with the teacher. The class will remain whole group the majority of the
day, but from 9-9:25 and 12:45-1:15, the students will have some time to explore. The
chaperones are responsible for their group. There should be at least one chaperone per 4
students. Each chaperone is responsible for the four assigned students. Ms. Knox will
have five students in her group. The chaperone grouping is included.
Rules
The teacher will review the rules during the class preparation. She will put the attached
sheet in each of the chaperones folders. If students violate the rules on the field trip, the
teacher will pull them from their group and move them to her group. Students will also
have disciplinary consequences at school. The teacher will give each chaperone the form
to report student behavior. The teacher will have the bus driver list his rules before the
bus leaves. Students must obey each of these rules, or the teacher will mark it on the
behavior sheet.

Assessment
Pre test:
The teacher will use both the blog posts and the summative test to serve as the pretest.
She also will have the students complete the letter below. She will check for their
understanding of the perceived injustices and how these set the colonists up for the
American Revolution.
Journals
During the field trip, the students will take notes in their composition notebooks. The
students will keep these journals with them and take notes over the material in the Liberty
program as well as the museum.
Post test:
The teacher will have the students compose a response journal to the Liberty program.
She will ask them to include specific information that they learned during the program as
well as include how they could see the colonists living during the time. The students will
share how the field trip gave them a deeper understanding of how the colonists felt
leading up to the Revolution. She will assess this post test based on details provided and
the effort put into the journal entry.
KWL Chart
The teacher will have each student write what they learned to contribute to the KWL
chart.
Pre Test
Imagine yourself in this situation:
You are a citizen living in Boston, Massachusetts. It is the spring of
1775 (just before the battles of Lexington and Concord). You own a
small inn in Boston and depend on the business to support your family.
Your customers include Patriots, Loyalists, British soldiers, and British
officers. As you serve food and drink, you often hear conversations,
information, and angry debate about the growing tensions between the
American colonies and England.
Instructions:
Write a letter to your cousin who lives on the western frontier and
doesnt know what is going on in the colonies. In your letter, discuss
these things:
