Activity Title:
Main concept, Goal of Activity: The children will be able to express their creativity skills by
participating in the Mouse Paint Dip and Drop activity.
Objective 1: The children will use their artistic skills by participating in the Mouse Paint Dip and Drop
activity.
Objective 2: The children will use their creativity skills by expressing and creating different patterns
with the variety of different paint colors in the Mouse Paint Dip and Drop activity.
Objective 3: The children will use their fine motor skills by using the cotton ball to dip it into a paint
color of their choice and then dropping it onto the paper to create their own Dip and Drop master
piece.

Materials or Equipment Needed:


Book: Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh
12 white heart cut outs
12 pink mini heart cut outs
12 yarns for the tail
Black Marker for the eye & nose
Variety of cotton balls
Paint: Red, Blue, & Yellow
3 pans per table for the paint
Tape for the tail

Prior to lesson:
Glue the ears, tape the tail on, and use the black marker to put the eye and nose on the
mouse.

Directions/ Explanations/Steps
1. I will introduce Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh.
2. As Im reading the book, I will use the plush mouse figures and puddles of paint throughout
the story so the children can really see whats going on in the story.
3. After the end of the book, I will go over with the children what happened in the story by using
the plush figures again.
4. I will introduce the Dip and Drop activity by showing the children my example of the Dip and
Drop activity.
5. I will call on a student one by one to pick a table to sit at.
6. I will pass out a white heart cut out individually to each child.
7. I will give each table a variety of cotton balls for the activity.
8. I will give each table a pan of each individual paint color, red, blue, and yellow.
I will explain to the children step by step on how to start the Dip and Drop activity.
A. First the children will take one cotton ball.
B. Next the children will choose a color of their choosing and dip the cotton ball into it.
C. Then the children will drop the cotton ball with paint higher from or closer to the
paper gently to make and see what their splatter will look like.
9. I will assist and help the children one by one with their Mouse Paint Dip and Drop activity and
show them how to drop the cotton ball from higher up or closer to their paper.
