The document describes Hayley Warren's process of creating an eerie self-portrait photograph using candles. She lit multiple candles and took several photos to capture the flames at a similar size without being overexposed. In Photoshop, she cut out the candles from the background and faded the background out. She also desaturated the colors to make the photo appear black and white, adding to the unsettling atmosphere she aimed to portray. The finished photo continued the theme of unease from her previous self-portrait.

From accessing the previous image of a self portrait
I decided to keep within the theme. I wanted to create an image which could also be found in the bedroom that would portray a slight eerie feeling throughout its audience. I concluded that fire would help me to create this look. Therefore I started photographing images of fire. I then positioned a number of candles around each other and lit them. I dulled the light to focus the camera on the candles to try to blur everything else from the image out. I had to take a number of images before I was able to achieve this image. It was an extremely hard photograph to capture as I tried to make each flame look about the same size without creating too much light so that it almost blinded the eye to look at.
When it came to editing I inserted it into
Photoshop. I then cut around the image and faded the background out so that more focus was given to the candles themselves. I then took out some of the colour so that it almost looked as though it was black and white. This added to the eerie atmosphere which I was after creating. I was thoroughly pleased with the finished look and was pleased it was in keeping with the theme from my first photograph.
