SETTING
Interrogation room, present day. Night.

NOTE
This play is meant to happen quickly, rhythm and motion is a big part of it. If a line has a slash,
all the words after the slash are meant to be said in unison. The scenes involved with Past Talya
and Past Amanda are meant to be choreographed.
Staging would be the two tiers set for the main characters and the stage floor is open for Past
Talya and Past Amanda to move.
This play is meant be open to any casting.

Lights up on half the stage. On stage

there are two tiers. The top tier has a
single chair with the
INTERROGATOR sitting with a
notebook and a pen in hand. On the
lower tier are two girls, TALYA, 18,
and AMANDA, 23, are sitting in
chairs facing the audience. Talya has
a black eye and AMANDA is
wearing a scarf around her neck.
AMANDA & TALYA
She started it. It's her fault. Why are you asking me? (pause) This is not how this was
supposed to happen.
INTERROGATOR
Why don't we start from the beginning?
TALYA
(yelling)
What do you mean start from the beginning?! She attacked me!
INTERROGATER
Stop yelling. This is standard procedure.
Talya gets up.
TALYA
Look at my face. What more evidence do you need? What are you waiting for?
INTERROGATOR
(firmly)
Sit down.
Talya sits down.
TALYA
(pleading)
You have to believe me. She did this. Look at my face!
INTERROGATOR
Im gonna need you to calm down and stop screaming at me.

TALYA
So you believe me?
INTERROGATOR
Has this happened before?
TALYA
We had always been rough before but / this time it was different.
AMANDA
(start at /)
This time she was different.
INTERROGATOR
What do you mean by different?
TALYA
We had always played around.
AMANDA
We were rough.

TALYA

It was kinda of.

AMANDA

TALYA

INTERROGATOR
So you guys have uh role-played before?
AMANDA
Well, yeah.
TALYA
If that's what you want to call it.

AMANDA
She was innocent.
TALYA
I was inexperienced.

She was shy.
TALYA
I was nervous.
AMANDA

TALYA

INTERROGATOR
Okay, why don't you tell me how you two met?
AMANDA & TALYA
I'm a little fuzzy on the details.
TALYA
My brother brought her home, but he brings home a lot of girls.
AMANDA
I wasn't just some girl. I was the girl.
TALYA
She would come around like every day it seemed.
AMANDA
I was like some trophy wife to her brother and we weren't even married.

TALYA

You would have thought they were gonna get married.

AMANDA
But he wasnt exactly my type. Her brother was a tool. A hot tool but still he was just like
any other dumb jock.
TALYA
I was checking up on her. Dont get me wrong. I love my brother, but we wasnt the
smartest jock on the block. I had seen too many of these girls come and go.
AMANDA
I would catch her staring at me.
TALYA
One day they invited me to watch a movie.
AMANDA
I figured since she was staring at me so much, she wanted a better view. I was being nice.
TALYA
It was weird.
AMANDA
We put on a scary movie.
TALYA
/I hated scary movies.
AMANDA
/I love scary movies
TALYA
We all sat on the same couch, I ended up sitting/ beside
AMANDA
/beside me, not that I was complaining.
TALYA
We were really close.
AMANDA

We were practically touching.

TALYA
Jake's phone rang and he started talking
AMANDA
We both looked at him and said....
TALYA & AMANDA
Are you fucking kidding me?!
TALYA
And then he left/ and things got awkward
AMANDA
/And things got exciting!
Light slowly comes up on the front half of the
stage where past Talya and Amanda are sitting
on the couch, while lights fade out on the
interrogation scene. During the scene they mouth
the conversation and move in a choreographed
way.
TALYA
She tried to start a conversation
AMANDA
So your brother
TALYA
Dont talk to me about my brother.
AMANDA
He's kind of
TALYA
An asshole.
AMANDA
Not my type.

TALYA
And whats your type? A girl like you can get whoever she wants I bet.
AMANDA
(light chuckle)
Youre more of what Im looking for.
TALYA
What?! Me?
AMANDA
Yeahsomeone cute, shy, and kinda fiestyI like it.
Talya laughs out of nervousness and is taken
aback by the comment

TALYA
I dont know what to say.
AMANDA
Awe. You dont have to say anything
TALYA
Ive never
AMANDA
Been with a girl
TALYA
Yeah
AMANDA
Me either (Amanda winks at Talya) But, theres a first time for everything right?
TALYA
(Talya smiles hesitately)
Yeah I guess youre right.
AMANDA
You are so adorable.
TALYA
My brother walked in. /Thank god

AMANDA
/Damnit!
The lights on the other half of the stage fade to
black and the lights come back up on in the
interrogation room.
INTERROGATOR
So she was dating your brother and she made a move on you. How did you two begin to
date?
TALYA
She gave me this note before she left that night and I took it. It had her new phone
number on it so I decided to text her.
INTERROGATOR
You were interested?
TALYA
I was curious.
INTERROGATOR
After she flirted with you?
TALYA
Well, yes.
INTERROGATOR
Continue.
TALYA
I texted her.
AMANDA
And she said, Hi, it's Talya. I was shocked.
TALYA
I didn't know what to say
AMANDA

And she said You're kinda cute too.

TALYA
It was so embarrassing.
AMANDA
It was adorable.
TALYA
It was stupid. I guess part of me liked the idea of
AMANDA
She liked being pursued.
TALYA
We started talking almost every day.
AMANDA
That girl could not stop texting
TALYA
And before you know it, we were dating.
INTERROGATOR
So you two were a couple.
AMANDA
/Yes
TALYA
/No...kinda of, I don't know.
INTERROGATOR
You dont know? Were two you intimate?

TALYA
(shy)
What do you consider intimate?
AMANDA

Yes!
INTERROGATOR
Were you two having sex?
AMANDA
Yes...often.
TALYA
Uhm...uh...
INTERROGATOR
I'll take that as a yes
TALYA
(softer)
Yes.
INTERROGATOR
How old were you two when this started?
TALYA
I was 17, she was 23.
AMANDA
I was 20, i figured she was 18.
Interrogator takes note of the age gap.
INTERROGATOR
How old are you now?
TALYA
Im 18.
AMANDA
Im 21.
INTERROGATOR
Lets move on to what happened tonight.

Light slowly fade up on front half of the stage

where there is a bed with past AMANDA getting
ready for bed.
TALYA
I came home, I admit a little tipsy.
AMANDA
She came into the bedroom drunk off her ass.
TALYA
She was sitting on the edge of the bed, getting ready to go to sleep.
AMANDA
I was tired, I didnt want to deal with her shit. I just wanted to go to sleep. So I ignored
her.
TALYA
(Said annoyingly)
She was playing hard to get. Which was new.
AMANDA
(nervous)
She was getting aggressive. She got onto the bed and started to take off my bra. I told her
no.
TALYA
She was acting like she wasnt in the mood and it was starting to piss me off.
AMANDA
(aggressively)
I was sick of her pushing and I stood up and I accidentally elbowed her in the face.
INTERRAGATOR
So you made first contact?
AMANDA
I guess, if thats what you want to say. I didnt mean to do it, I just wanted her to stop. /It
was an accident.
TALYA

(aggressive)
/It wasnt an accident. She did it on purpose, and I had to defend myself.
INTERRAGATOR
So what did you do?
TALYA
(matter of fact)
I was outraged. I did what any other normal person would do.
INTERROGATOR
So you snapped?
The lights cut straight to black on the bed scene.
AMANDA
And before I knew it, I was on the floor and she started choking me. She had this look in
her eyes that I had never seen before. I was scared.
INTERROGATOR
Then what happened?
AMANDA
I grabbed the closest thing, a book I think / and I hit her
TALYA
/And she hit me. Next thing I know /she locked herself in the bathroom.
AMANDA
/I locked myself in the bathroom. / She started screaming and kicking the door.
TALYA
/I started knocking on the door. (beat) / I wanted to apologize
AMANDA
/She wanted to kill me. Im sure of it.
TALYA
I dont know what shes talking about. I was just worried. Shes freaked out like this
before and last time I found her with a bottle of pills.

INTERROGATOR
Why would she call us? If she was planning on doing anything?
TALYA
I dont know. But she sure as hell wasnt calling about me. She must be lying.
INTERROGATOR
(beat)Are you sure there isnt anything youre leaving out?
AMANDA & TALYA
Nothing.
The Interrogator gets up and steps down off of the
tier.
INTERREGATOR
Thats all I need. Youre free to go. Ill be in touch.
Amanda and Talya get up and the lights go black.
