Guide to Yanceys On Reflection

It is reflection that Stimulates the growth of consciousness (4)

Reflection entails a looking forward to goals we might attain, as well as a casting
backwards to see where we have been (6)

The Functions of Revision

1. Goal Setting
2. Text Revision in the light of retrospection
3. The articulation of what learning has taken place in various texts as well as in
the process used by the writer.
The Three types of Reflection
1. Reflection in action- the process of reviewing and projecting and revising,
which takes place within a composing event, and the associated texts.
2. Constructive Reflection- the process of developing a cumulative, multi-selved,
multi-voiced identity, which takes place between and among composing
events.
3. Reflection in presentation- the process of articulating the relationships
between and among multiple variable of writing and the writer in a specific
context for a particular audience.

In this course you will be asked to engage in all of these types of reflection
throughout the semester.
At times you will be asked to provide a reflection in action after having
completed a draft of a paper.
You many also be asked to compose a constructive reflection after you have
had the opportunity to compose for multiple audiences.
At the end of the semester I will ask you to create a reflection in presentation
as part of your final portfolio.
