Lesson Plan Title: Compound Word Whiz


Grade: 1
Duration: 5 minutes

Student Objectives:

Students will learn about compound words.


Students will understand that compound words are made by two individual words.
Students will sing a song to help them remember compound words.
Students will work with spelling and grammar along with musical elements.
Students will listen to the teacher sing the song first and will sing the song with the
teacher.

Materials:
o Construction paper
o Premade word cards
o Overhead

Procedure:
1. Discuss with students what a compound word is.
2. Sing the song to the students and then let them join in. Sing twice.
3. Students will come to the front of the room and help during the song. These students will
hold the word cards.
4. Ask students if they can name some compound words.

Put two words together
to make a compound word.

Sun and Shine make sunshine.

Rain and Bow make Rainbow.


Sun and Flower make Sunflower.

Now youre a compound word whiz.
