I am writing a letter of recommendation in relation to Ms. Tiana Boskovich. I have known Tiana for the better part of a year. She is a student here at St. Catherine University in the Interpreter Training Program. I have worked professionally with Tiana, as she was my teachers assistant for a level five lab and in the Deaf community, as Tiana is voraciously involved with many deaf-related activities. When I first met Tiana, her level of commitment to becoming a wellrounded interpreter and her dedication to share this passion with others impressed me. She helped me create lesson plans and activities for the semester-long level five lab, as well as successfully implement them. She was able to take critical feedback and use it to improve her own signing and teaching skills. She used her own experience to provide feedback for students and her passion for interpreting is evident in her stories to the other students. Tiana also shows tremendous initiative in using the language. She was one of the first of her group to volunteer to work with DeafBlind clients for their annual DeafBlind Thanksgiving banquet. She asked questions and made sure she understood exactly what was needed from her to be the ideal interpreter for a DeafBlind client. Tiana shows up to a multitude of Deaf events, whether hosted by an organization or for personal means, such as football night, where the dominant language is American Sign Language. Tiana shows an innate understanding of the language and is comfortable with native users and their varying needs. Tiana is also involved in a Deaf/ASL dodge ball league where she will communicate needs between the Deaf members of the team with the hearing referees and opposing team members as needed. Tiana continues her education this semester though an internship with ASLIS, ASL Interpreting Services, a major agency here in the Twin Cities. She continues to assist another professor in a level six lab and in teaching Deaf Culture class. I highly recommend Tiana for this opportunity with your company as she continues to become the best possible interpreter she can be. She has the appropriate mindset and skills needed for this field; the experience with Sorenson would only serve to amplify the talent she already has. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I am a Deaf adjunct faculty member here, teaching a wide variety of ASL classes.
