Introduction

De Gaulle was a French general and statesman, leader of


the Free French during World War Two and his political
ideology, has become a major infl uence in French politics .

Charles de Gaulle was born in Lille on

November 1890
He grew up in Paris, where his father was a
teacher.
He chose a military career
He served in battles of the First and Second
World War.

He wrote many books about war and

strategies for France.


He said that the military forces had to have
more tanks, planes, etc.
During the Second World War, France was
defeated by the Germans.
De Gaulle refused to surrender and escaped
to London to try to help France from there.

He sent messages by radio to the French and

told them to resist the Germans and never to


surrender.

In London, he announced the formation of a

French government in exile.


He became leader of the Free French.

After the liberation of Paris in 1944, de Gaulle

returned to Paris and was treated like a hero.

He became president and guided France

through the writing of the constitution.

Conclusion
De Gaulle was very important in the liberation

of France in Second World War II.


His strategies were used to win the war.
He encouraged the French never to surrender
and to be free.
