Classroom management strategies from EDFX316

Attention strategies:
-

3,2,1,0 (countdown)
3,2,1 waterfall (ssshhhh)
Show me 5
(Positive) I like the way.. is doing ..
Hands on head, hands on shoulders
Clapping rhythms
Hands up
If I point to you, you can go do. (usually going back to seats)

Ways of grouping:
-

Friendship groups (sort few students out after)

Ability grouping
Mixed ability
Table groups
Person next to them on the table (good for partner work)
turn and talk knee to knee perfect for whole class quick reflection
or thinking time

Use the 5 keys (Respect, getting along, organisation, persistence,

confidence) to remind students about how we should act in the classroom

Learning Ladder:
-

Students go up and down the ladder depending on their behaviour and

work during the day. When they reach the top they receive a sticker
which goes on a chart the first one to reach the top of the chart
receives a prize (usually occurs every term).

Reflection Mat:
-

If students fall off the ladder (continually go down places on the ladder
due to bad/disruptive behaviour) they go to the blue reflection mats in
a different classroom. This gives them time to reflect on their
behaviour what they were doing wrong and what they need to
change and the teacher in the other classroom will talk to them

before they go back to their classroom. Particularly works well for

students who enjoy an audience.
