Azuma Tokuhos real father was Ichimura Uzaemon XV, her mother was a Geisha
and Dance Teacher Fujima Masaya. According to the original playbill at 6 years of
age she began training under Band Mitsugor VII and Onoe Kikugor VI and
appeared on stage with her father at the Kabuikza. Azuma Tokuho took the dance
name Fujima Harue as a consequence of receiving a diploma at the age of 14 from
Fujima Kanemon III, Head of the Fujima School of Kabuki Dancing who was also
known by his Kabuki actors name of Matsumoto Kshir VII. Her first dance troupe
formed in 1930 was called Shunto-Kai (Spring Wisteria Dancing Group). The
second group the Azuma Kabuki Dancers and Musicians was formed with her
second husband Fujima Masaya II for their 1954-1956 tour in Europe and the USA.
In 1945 on the death of her father she inherited the headship of the Azuma Ry
Nihon Buy School of Japanese Dance. Her first husband was Nakamura Tomijr
IV who she married in 1928. Her second husband was Fujima Masaya II who she
married in 1939. They divorced in 1956 and he died as a result of gas poisoning in
his Tokyo apartment in 1957 as he tried to fix his gas cooker
