To Whom it May Concern:
It gives me great pleasure to recommend Conner Bourgoin for a position at your school. I first met Conner in
September of 2015, when he started observing my classes on a weekly basis. During that time, he asked
thoughtful questions about my teaching strategies, taught multiple well-planned lessons, and engaged in
meaningful discussions with both myself and my colleagues. Conner showed enthusiasm, professionalism, and
confidence from the start.
This past January, Conner began teaching two of my ninth grade honors English classes, and I have been
extremely impressed by his knowledge, preparation, and passion as a student teacher. His first task was to
guide the classes through the process of writing their term papera kind of trial by fireand he rose to and
exceeded my expectations. He was clear in his instructions, thorough and timely in his feedback, and firm but
fair when leading the students though the writing process. By papers end, the students expressed how helpful
his guidance had been, and how much they felt their writing had improved.
At this point, Conner is wrapping up his first full unit on William Goldings The Lord of the Flies; he prepared
this unit on his own, and I was impressed with the knowledge and instincts he showed in its development. I
have found his lessons to be engaging, interesting, and informative, and the students have responded well to his
style of instruction. He differentiates both his lesson plans as well as his assessments, and the students have
excelled because of it. Conner encourages his students to engage in meaningful small group discussions, as
well as lively class-wide debates. He captures their attention through connections to history, music, and current
events, and has cultivated an excellent rapport with the students. Conner also makes himself available after
school for students who need to make up work or get caught up on class work they have missedand his
involvement in the school environment does not end there; Conner has attended faculty meetings, department
meetings, and even volunteered to play in a Student-Faculty Basketball game to raise money for a good cause.
These are just a few examples of how Conner goes above and beyond the call of duty, and indicate the kind of
asset he will be to any school culture.
In the time that I have known him, I have witnessed Conners true enthusiasm for education. His energetic
personality and positive attitude inspire his students and colleagues alike. Conner shows the desire to succeed,
and the drive to constantly improve himself. He is a promising young teacher who, I have no doubt, has a long
