MEDIA / PUBLIC RELEASE

On Friday, May 6, 2016 at approx. 5:40 AM, Jackson Police Officers responded to the area of
Davis Magnet School at 750 North Congress St. regarding a shooting and carjacking. Upon
officers arrival it was learned that an unidentified black male armed with a handgun approached
a female victim at this location demanding her vehicle and belongings. The suspect shot the
victim in the hand and fled the scene in her black 2012 Infiniti M37. She was transported to
UMMC for medical treatment. Her injuries were serious, but non-life threatening.
During the investigation, it was learned that the suspect was possibly occupying a red in color
Nissan Altima just prior to approaching this victim. The Nissan Altima was later confirmed as a
carjacked vehicle from May 5, 2016. It was also seen fleeing the area where this incident
occurred. Evidence led authorities to the 100 block of Lousiana Ave. Mississippi Highway Patrol
Officers were in the area and alerted Jackson Police Officers that vehicles matching the
description of both, the Nissan Altima and Infiniti M37 were possibly abandoned behind
residences. Both vehicles were later recovered behind separate abandoned residences on
Louisiana Ave. They were both unoccupied at the time of the recovery.
Authorities were able to detain three subjects while in the area conducting this investigation.
They were detained on Virginia Ave. near Alabama Ave. and transported to the
Robbery/Homicide Division for questioning in this matter. Subsequently, Daniel Henry was
charged with Auto Theft, Armed Robbery of an Individual and Aggravated Assault stemming
from the incident that occurred at 750 North Congress St. The other two subjects were released
pending no charges at this time.
Both incidents are still under investigation and more charges and arrests are possible.
The Jackson Police Department would like to thank members of the Mississippi Highway Patrol
Office for their collective and tireless effort in assisting in this investigation.
Anyone with any information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Jackson Police
Department at 601-960-1234 or 601-355-TIPS (8477).
