Leptospirosis
Leptospirosis is an infectious disease of humans and

animals that is caused by pathogenic spirochetes of


the genus Leptospira.

Treatment
In mild cases, patients should be encouraged to

maintain adequate fluid intake to avoid volume


depletion. In more severe cases, diets appropriate for
the clinical picture should be ordered

Prevention
The risk of acquiring leptospirosis can be greatly

reduced by not swimming or wading in water that


might be contaminated with animal urine, or
eliminating contact with potentially infected
animals.
Protective clothing or footwear should be worn by
those exposed to contaminated water or soil because
of their job or recreational activities.
