Dear Editors at Simon & Schuster:
I am writing to express my interest in the editorial assistant position with Gallery Books at
Simon & Schuster. I heard about the position through the Simon & Schuster career website.
Would you be willing to consider me for the editorial assistant position? I am a graduate of York
College of Pennsylvania with a bachelorette in Professional Writing with minors in biology and
creative writing. I believe that my skills in group management, reading through submissions with
a quick and critical eye, and prioritizing tasks would qualify me for the position.
My education at York College has given me a strong background in professional writing, creative
writing, publishing, designing documents, and group management. I have experience in reading
through submissions and providing feedback in a timely manner during my internship with Story
Magazine during the fall 2015 semester. I was reading through at least 20 submissions a week,
making note of which pieces either caught my attention or just poorly written. I have experience
working in groups through the classes I have taken at York College, keeping the group on task,
what projects were due and when they were do, and completing whatever task I was given in a
timely fashion. During my time with Story, I had the opportunity to interview an author, which
was later put on the magazines website. I had to prioritize the interview over the rest of my
workload, focusing more of my time on preparing for and conducting the interview. I was also
able to complete some of workload whenever I had extra free time.
