What is a parallelograms

area?
Follow the instructions see where the area of a
parallelogram comes from.
1. Using the two pieces of graph paper in your plastic bag,
form a rectangle.
2. Find the area of this rectangle by counting the number
of squares. Write it down on this sheet.

3. Now using the two pieces of graph paper, make a


parallelogram.

4. Based on this transformation, what can we say about


the area of a parallelogram? If you need help, find the
area of your parallelogram. Do you notice anything that
is the same? Remember that we started with a
rectangle.
