The Poverty

Project
Malnutrition and Education In
Guatemala

Poverty In Guatemala
- 7/10 people in Guatemala live below the poverty line
- 2/3 of all Guatemalan children live below the poverty line
- Only 28% of people in Guatemala have a steady job
- The average length of time in school is 3.5 years
- Guatemalan literacy rates are below the Latin America average
The low employment rates and over exploitation of land resources causes
food insecurity and unsteady food prices.
Although schooling in Guatemala is fairly inexpensive, it is not easily
accessible to many people.

How Poverty affects Children

- Most parents arent able to provide steady food sources or guarantee that
their children will get the education they need

- Malnutrition among Guatemalan children is extremely high

- Malnutrition has been linked to kidney failure and other dangerous health
issues

Casa Para Ninos Aleluya

Casa Aleluya is a childrens home that cares for mistreated children.
The children are placed in Casa Aleluya by court order and there they receive
three meals a day, schooling opportunities, and any medical attention they
need.

Service Project:
Soccer is a favorite pastime of the children in Guatemala, and we could do a
soccer-themed fundraiser. Groups of six can sign up to play in a soccer
tournament. Students can pay an admission fee to watch the games and
proceeds will go towards paying for basic things that the children at Casa
Aleluya need.
