1CARUS

A STATUE BY TOM MALEY

About 1CARUS

1CARUS comes from the stable of British

sculptor Tom Maley and the F1 community
is well-acquainted with his work. A desktop
version of 1CARUS was commissioned for
Bernie Ecclestone in 2013 and currently sits
in F1s headquarters in London.

Its name comes from 1CARUS, the character

from Greek mythology who dared to fly too
near to the sun on wings of feathers and wax.
1CARUS is equally daring on land and evokes
classic motoring mascots. Cutting a striking
pose, 1CARUS is a muscular helmeted driver
with his arms outstretched behind him like
wings as he strides forward. Instead of having
hands, huge stainless steel exhausts project
from his arms with the tangle of pipes that
supply them leading into his back.
Bernie was so impressed with the desktop
piece that he asked for a large version of
it to be displayed outside his motorhome
in the paddock at the British Grand Prix.
It is understood to be the first time that a
sculpture has ever been displayed in this
location which is one of the most exclusive in
the F1 paddock.

It attracted widespread attention from media

and has been featured on the BBC, Sky
Sports and many other television channels.
F1s most well-known personalities, including
Bernie, Ong Beng Seng, Toto Wolff, Niki Lauda
and Naomi Campbell, have had their photos
taken with 1CARUS showing the appeal for
Toms statues within the sport.
