TEACHER: MISS CATHERINE EMMI

COURSE: SE MATH (LSMA 101)

ROOM 105

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to teach skills that will increase the students ability to read, write, compute and solve problems
using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages. The operational areas of addition, subtraction, multiplication,
and division are emphasized in a practical real world content to provide the students a link between their everyday lives
and the use of mathematics. Additionally, students gain skills using calculators, working with various units of
measurements, and money skills.
QUARTERLY SKILLS: Guam Department of Education recognizes that each child is unique and each child makes
progress at his/her ability. Quarterly skills and expectations will be based on Individual special needs and circumstances.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Students will try to learn addition and subtraction of dollars and cents in lessons to prepare them for real world expenses.
Students will try to learn to read analog clocks as well as digital clocks often used in work places and public places.
Students will try to learn to use calculators for every day problem solving.
CLASSROOM RULES/EXPECTATIONS:
Students will not leave the class without permission from the teacher.
Students will raise their hands to ask permission to speak and wait to be called upon by the teacher.
Students will speak one at a time.
There will be no obscene language or gestures spoken or shown to teacher, aides, or to another student.
Students will respect the opinions of others as we have numerous discussions.
There will be no yelling allowed.
DISCIPLINE INTERVENTION:
1st Offense: Warning (Teacher will counsel student)
2nd Offense: Teacher calls parent.
3rd Offense: Referral to Grade Level Counselor
4th Offense: Referral to Grade Level Administrator
HOMEWORK POLICY: There will be rare instances where homework is given. Each child is different and therefore
assignments will vary accordingly, so will due dates.
This teacher is not requiring any school supplies for this class.
MAKE-UP WORK POLICY: This teacher recognizes that on occasion a student may be absent for an extended length of
time due to illness. This teacher will work with students on a case by case basis to catch up if needed.
FIELD TRIP POLICY: This teacher will send letters home and/or make phone calls to parents to discuss field trips.
Permission slips must be turned in at least 7 days prior to the field trip so that final plans can be made according to
number of students attending field trip and other considerations.

Grades for each student will be based on class participation in discussions and in-class projects. Each student will be
graded based upon his/her unique needs and circumstances.
I reserve the right to amend this syllabus in order to better meet individual needs of students.
I will contact you in letters to explain 5 Service Learning Hours I will offer students
I will occasionally write notes in a Communication Log Notebook I have provided each student, please also feel free to
write notes in the notebooks as well.

STUDENT MEDIA RELEASE STATEMENT:


In an effort to promote school events, your childs photo may be posted on the school website, or printed in local media
newspapers, or may be aired on local news stations in an effort to showcase the school.

Should you choose not to have your childs picture released for any school event, please
provide your childs grade level administrator with a note stating your decision not to
have pictures released. Please provide this note as soon as possible.
