SUMMARY
When we talk about recurring activities in the past we can use two buildings, which in many cases are
equivalent - "used to" and "would":
Last year, I used to / would walk to work, but This Year I go by a car.
1. "would" is used more in a literary record and has a nostalgic connotation about a pleasant situation
past that continues to this day:
When I was a child, my mom would read me a story before going to bed.
2. "used to" is used in all kinds of contexts that refer to a situation that continues today:
When I was a student, I used to stay up all night reading.
Important: When it comes to state a verb (to be, to have, to love, to hate, etc.) or an unbroken
situation in the past, we can only use "used to":
I used to love classical music.
I used to be thinner When I Was Young.
