Be able to Generate Effective Written Literary Analyses by Attending to Stylistic, Thematic,

Generic, and/or Formal Elements of a Literary Text

This outcome has been apparent throughout the majority of my assignments. I have taken
various courses that devoted themselves to specific literary periods, movements, and themes. By
learning to recognize these characteristics, I have gained the ability to develop analyses based on
such knowledge. My work throughout the course of college reflects my ability to recognize the
how and why of literature. Literature possesses countless different elements, all of which I do not
claim to be an expert of. However, I do believe I have gained a strong grasp of a broad range of
styles, forms, and themes. Based on such, I now feel confident in my ability to generate effective
analyses of a variety of texts. Having the skills to analyze different elements of a text is
important because it allows the reader to understand the meaning of things on a deeper level.
Successful writers imbed their overall message in symbols, characters, and plot devices. Without
the courses in the literature major, I do not feel I would be able to fully assess the importance of
literary texts.
