I am privileged to write in support of my former student teacher, Jena Colon.
Jena studied and taught in my 6th grade Language Arts classroom for close to
eight weeks, during which time I witnessed her tremendous skill at
connecting with students and teaching. She is well skilled not only in the
area of achievement and leadership, but in organization and character as
well.
Jena swiftly learned to manage her time, work in co-teaching situations with
a diverse population of students and colleagues; and to recognize the
importance of a strong work ethic, persistence, and intellectual integrity. She
was a natural teacher and communicator. We unmistakably co-taught
everything together so well that I miss her presence daily.
She was a team player, accepting any task thrown her way with willingness
beyond that of any student teacher Ive had the pleasure to work with. She
was creative in her lesson planning, worked well with technology, and
managed the classroom with flair and respect. Jena was more than capable
of creating an environment that was student centered where active learning
took place daily. Most significantly, she was able to accept criticism and
quickly adapted.
I recommend Jena to any school district with absolute confidence. She has
made me proud, as her cooperating teacher and friend. I am sure she will
continue to do so as she grows within this superb profession.
