ADHD Fact Sheet

1. There are three types of ADHD


-ADHD, Predominantly Inattentive Type
-ADHD, Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Type
-ADHD, Combined Type
2. 11% or 6.4 billion children in the United States, ages 7-11 have been diagnosed with ADHD.
3. An astounding 13.2% of boys compared to the 5.6% of girls have been diagnosed in the U.S.
4. As of 2011, 6.1% of children diagnosed with ADHD are receiving medication for it.
5. People with ADHD are prone to easy distractibility, trouble focusing attention, tendency to
tune out or drift away in the middle of a page or a conversation, often coupled with an ability to
focus at times and are often creative, intuitive and highly intelligent
6. Teachers cannot diagnose ADHD. It must be done by a Pediatrician, Psychologist or
Psychiatrist.
7. The child must also receive a full physical which contains a hearing and eye exam when
being diagnosed.
8. Some accommodations are: Shortened Instructions, Consistent and Immediate
Consequences, Frequent Rewards When on Task and Meeting Goals and Keeping Reward to
Punishment Ratio 2:1.
9. Audible books and Class DOJO can be used to assist students when using technology.
10. Because a student diagnosed with ADHD isnt necessarily eligible for special
education, they are normally paced in general education classrooms while receiving
accommodations under Section 504.
