Hydroelectric: negatives

by christa jackson

Bad environmental consequences

Emission of methane and carbon dioxide:
if the area surrounding the dam is filled with water then the plants
start rotting and decompose without the use of oxygen
relocation:
the installation of a dam can make people and animals have to
relocate
many plants will die
if the dam breaks it would cause serious flooding

affects the habitat

animals will have to leave
the water while flowing through the dam collects nitrogen which kills fish
It can also damage the reproduction of fish which can eliminate that
whole species. This could impact all animals in a negative way

expensive
It is very expensive to build
it can cost between one hundred thousand dollars to one million dollars

droughts
low water level can negatively impact amount of electricity generation
which can affect habitats nearby
California gets 20 percent of energy from hydroelectricity
The california state water project usually supplies 30 public
agencies with water, because of drought it could only do 5 percent
of its normal capacity
